This foundation is a new and welcome element on the island musical scene, with important connections in North and South America.  It is headed here by composer Rafael Aponte Ledée, who has been a tireless driving force in the island’s modern music movement since the late 1960s and who never fails to come of with something both interesting and significant.

The Latin American Foundation for Contemporary Music, based in San Juan, has for years been a strong  positive force in the island’s musical life.  The Foundation through its sharply focused biennial concert series has brought significant twentieth’ century works and distinguished performers to Puerto Rico, many (works and performers alike) for the first time.
